The ruins of Ovgon Khiid, built in 1660 after the former monastery was destroyed and the monks slain by the armies of Galdan Boshigt of Zungar, a competitor of Zanabazar’s, in 1640, are located at the southern foot of Khogno Khan mountain. The monastery reopened in 1992, with a couple of Ulaanbaatar monks present. The ruins of the previously destroyed monastery are a wonderful 45-minute hike up the valley to the right along a well-defined trail.
