The monastery is next to the Omnogobi aimag’s Khanbogd soum. In the Gobi, the great Mongolian lama Danzanravjaa established the Demchig (Demchig is the God in Buddhism) Monastery Ruins, also known as the Energy Centre. It is one of Galbyin Gobi’s three monasteries. During the Stalinist purges of the 1930s, the monastery was demolished. Today, so-called “Omniscientists” claim that the site possesses a tremendous amount of energy. Local donations are already being used to rebuild the monastery.
Fun fact: the cave of wealth is 15 kilometers from Demchig Monastery. It is a low mountain cave where residents think you can increase your money if you rub it against its walls.
