Khangai Mountain Range

Khangai Mountain Range
Khangai Mountain

central mongolia

The Khangai Mountains are located 400 kilometers west of Ulaanbaatar in central Mongolia. They are Mongolia’s second-highest mountains. The Khangai Mountains are 2500-3000 meters above sea level and are mostly made up of Paleozoic era granite, intrusive chert, and sandstone. The range stretches for around 800 kilometers from Zavkhan province to Tuv province, and it serves as the world water system’s continental divide.

Beautiful forests, meadows, and numerous streams abound in the Khangai Mountains. For herds of horses, yaks, and cows, the green mountainsides and a network of smaller and larger rivers provide good pastureland. A dozen extinct volcanoes and numerous volcanic lakes can be found in the magnificent Khorgo region on the northern sides of the Khangai mountains. Rivers that are swift and turbulent have carved jagged gorges. The Orkhon River’s source stream is located in a volcanic zone with deep volcanic vents and hot springs.
