The Khentii Nuruu are a mountain range in northern Mongolia’s Töv and Khentii provinces. The Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area is crossed by the chain, which includes Mongolia’s “holy mountain,” Burkhan Khaldun, which is linked to Genghis Khan’s origins. The mountain is lushly wooded and well-watered.
The range acts as a watershed between the Arctic and Pacific Ocean basins (via Lake Baikal). The Onon, Kherlen, and Tuul rivers all originate inside the range.
