Many threatened and endangered species from the southern taiga, Central Asian steppe, and Daguur-Manjuria forest steppe call this place home. It is home to 11% of the biogeographical population of White-naped cranes (Grus vipio), 3% of Eurasian cranes (Grus Grus), 1% of Demoiselle cranes (Anthropoides virgo), and 15% of black storks (Anthropoides virgo) (Ciconia nigra). The size of the lakes has shrunk as a result of global warming.
