On the banks of the Ongiin River, there remains a ruin of Bari Yonzon Khamba’s large monastery. The remains of two monasteries that face each other across the Ongi river in south-central Mongolia are known as Ongi. The calm and beauty of the Delger Khangai Mountains will be ours to enjoy. We’ll take a trip through this vast rocky hill range carved by the river. The southern complex had 11 temples as well as various administrative buildings. The northern complex, which was built in the 18th century, included 17 temples, including one of Mongolia’s largest temples. Four Buddhist universities were located on the premises.

Built in the 17th century, the monasteries were demolished in 1937. They were one of Mongolia’s largest temples, with around 1000 monks.

Today, a small monastery has been built between the ruins, and the remains of ancient monasteries are on display in the Ger museum.
