Sumatra’s oasis In the province of Dundgobi, Khukh Burd is located in the Adaatsag sum’s land. In the 10th century, a temple was built in the centre of a small lake. It is reported that the temple was constructed from boulders discovered 300 kilometers away. It had been abandoned and had been reduced to ruins. Hundreds of years later, writer Danzan Ravjaa constructed a theatre on top of the ruins and staged his famous play “Saran Khukhuu.”
The little lake used to be home to a diverse array of birds. The Mongolian lark, several types of prey birds, geese, and swans are among the visitors to this spring-fed lake. During the Mongolian persecution, the remnants of Khukh Burd Monastery were levelled. The spring Uudiin Bulag, located south of Lake ‘Burd,’ is known for its healing effects.
