Near Ulaanbaatar

The source of the Tuul River is in the Khentii Mountain Range, which is located far north. The Khentii Mountains are a mountain range in northern Mongolia’s Töv and Khentii Provinces. The chain crosses the Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area and includes Burkhan Khaldun, Mongolia’s holiest peak and the birthplace of Genghis Khan.
The range serves as a watershed between the Arctic and Pacific Ocean basins (via Lake Baikal). The Onon, Kherlen, and Tuul-our objective rivers-are all rivers that originate in the range.
