Altan Els Strictly Protected Area (Golden Sand) is located at the northern boundary of Uvs Aimag and contains the world’s northernmost sand dunes, as well as nearly all of the ecosystem components found in the Uvs Nuur Basin. Brown grass, sandy sagebrush, couch grass, wormwood, wild thyme, and white willow are among the endangered flora found here. It is possible to hire camels and horses to ride in the sand dunes outside of the Strictly Protected Area in the Oasis Bayan Nuur.
