In the Mongolian Great Lakes Depression, Ayrag lake is a shallow, freshwater lake.
A vital breeding and resting site for a variety of aquatic species, as well as the only place in Mongolia where the Dalmatian Pelican breeds on a regular basis. The lake is extremely important for the area’s groundwater replenishment. The globally endangered Swan Goose and Relict gull are two other notable water bird species.
