Khokh Nuur is located 35 kilometers north-west of Tsenkhermandal Sum in Khentii aimag. At 560 meters above sea level, it is a medium-sized freshwater lake. Temujin is claimed to have been anointed Genghis Khan in 1206 at Khokh Nuur (Blue Lake). The location of the coronation, which some claim was attended by 100,000 soldiers, is marked by a tiny plaque. The lake is a major bird migratory route, and you can see a lot of waders and shore birds here.
