Otgon Tenger Mountain
Zavkhan Mongolia

west Mongolia

Otgontenger Mountain is Mongolia’s 5th tallest mountain and the highest peak in the Khangai Nuruu Range. Its highest point is 4020 meters above sea level. Otgontenger is the only mountain in the Khangai range with a glacier on top.
The mountain is one of Mongolia’s most revered mountains. The first sovereign state of Mongolia, the Khunnu, began worshipping during Khunnu times, and this custom continues to this day. This mountain was first designated as a protected area in 1818. Since 1992, the peak and its surroundings have been protected to protect the high alpine ecology. The south face of Otgon Tenger Uul is Mongolia’s largest stone wall.
